Early Childhood Education
A variety of Early Childhood Programs are available to young children who live within the boundaries of the Los Lunas Schools District. All elementary schools in the district have at least one early childhood program for our young learners. Los Lunas Schools is a participant of the Public Education Department's FOCUS program.
Los Lunas Schools utilizes the FOCUS: Essential Elements of Quality to improve upon the quality of our Early Childhood Programs. The Essential Elements of Quality focus on children's growth, development, and learning with a focus on providing students with an equitable opportunity for successfully starting kindergarten. For more information on FOCUS, please click on the FOCUS icon on this page.

There are three preschool programs currently implemented in the Los Lunas Schools.
-
New Mexico PreK is a voluntary preschool program created by the Pre-Kindergarten Act of 2005. Children who have reached their 4th birthday by September 1st are eligible to attend a PreK program. The purpose of PreK is to ensure every child in New Mexico has the opportunity to attend a high quality Early Childhood education program before kindergarten.
- The Peer Model Program is designed for preschool children whose families are seeking a readiness program for their child prior to kindergarten. These students are role models for students participating in the Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Program. Children selected for the Peer Model Program are screened and must demonstrate age appropriate social, adaptive, speech and language, fine motor and gross motor skills.
